Swimming in Lomma and Bjärred: beaches, the pier and one place to leave alone

Short answer

Lomma kommun has four official bathing places, all EU bathing waters tested every other week in season: Lomma norra (Lomma beach), Hamnhusen / T-bryggan by the harbour, Långa Bryggan in Bjärred and Habo Ljung. Lomma beach is the classic choice: long, sandy and shallow. In Bjärred you swim from the shore by Saltsjöbadsparken or from the cold-bath house at the end of Långa Bryggan, which the municipality reports as Blue Flag. Swimming inside the harbour area is forbidden.

Editorial answer: our opinion, based on the sources listed below. No venue has paid to appear.

Hamnhusen / T-bryggan: the accessible option

Beside the harbour, Hamnhusen / T-bryggan has an accessible bathing ramp and a bathing wheelchair; the key can be borrowed from the municipal contact centre at Järnvägsgatan 7 with a medical certificate or disabled parking permit. Toilets and a shower are on Sandhamnsgatan. Remember: you may swim at this bathing place, but not inside the harbour itself.

Is the water clean?

During the bathing season the municipality samples all four bathing waters every other week for E. coli and intestinal enterococci, and checks temperature and visible algae. Yearly classifications are based on the previous four years, so for today's conditions look at the latest results on the municipality's page.

Lomma strand

Shallow, sandy water makes this the easiest beach for families. Lomma Beach House sits by the beach and publishes a beach webcam.

Bjärred: shore and pier

Saltsjöbadsparken's sandy shore lies at the foot of Långa Bryggan. Walk to the end of the pier for the cold-bath house, where sauna and sea bathing have their own terms.

Habo Ljung

Beach, alder swamp and pine forest between the two towns. On windy days the water belongs to kitesurfers, so give them room.

Where not to swim in spring and early summer

From 15 April to 15 July, the reed beds and river mouth at Löddeåns mynning are closed to protect breeding birds; stay on the viewing ramp (County Administrative Board of Skåne).
