Can I take my dog to the beach in Lomma?

Dogs in Lomma and Bjärred: beaches, dog parks and nature-reserve rules

Short answer

Yes, outside the bathing season and on much of the coast. Lomma kommun bans dogs from bathing places with jetties and sandy beaches from 1 May to 31 August, but says dogs may visit and bathe along large parts of the coast all year, following the municipality's dog map. From 1 March to 20 August dogs must not run loose where there are wild animals, and nature reserves have their own, sometimes stricter, rules. For off-lead play, use one of the fenced dog parks, such as Löddesnäs, Bjärehov, Industrigatan or Saltsjöbaden.

Editorial answer: our opinion, based on the sources listed below. No venue has paid to appear.

Beaches: summer ban, open coast

The 1 May–31 August ban covers bathing places with jetties and sandy beaches, which the municipal dog map marks out. It is not a ban on the whole coastline; check the map before you pick a stretch.

Fenced dog parks

The municipality's dog parks are fenced, grass-surfaced areas where dogs may be off lead. Its map names Hundrastplats Löddesnäs, Bjärehov, Industrigatan and Saltsjöbaden.

Nature reserves: keep the lead on

In Haboljungs fure, unleashed dogs are not allowed. At the southern part of Löddeåns mynning, dogs must be on a lead from 1 March to 30 September, and from 15 April to 15 July the reed beds are closed except for the boardwalk and platform. In Södra Lommabukten, dogs are banned from most of the reserve all year.

A good walk with a dog

Strandstråket follows the coast from Spillepeng in the south to Lödde å in the north. Outside the summer beach ban and the nesting season, it is our favourite long walk with a dog; keep to the lead rules where the path enters reserves.
