Stacks of terracotta pots at Terracotta House & Garden

Where can you shop in Lomma and Bjärred?

Shopping in Lomma and Bjärred: not many shops — but what quality

Photo: terracottahome.se, the venue's own website

Short answer

There isn't much shopping in Lomma and Bjärred, and that is part of the charm: no malls, just a handful of small, owner-run shops that are worth a detour. Our four favourites are Borgeby Kryddgård for spices and pantry goods, Terracotta House & Garden in Borgeby for pots and homeware, Italianissimo in Lomma for Italian delicacies, and The Happy Greenhouse in Bjärred for flowers. To take food home, Slaktaren has a meat counter and Fiskboden a fish counter in Lomma harbour. For big-city shopping, Malmö and Lund are a short trip away.

Editorial answer: our opinion, based on the sources listed below. No venue has paid to appear.

Few shops, chosen with care

Lomma and Bjärred are residential seaside towns, not shopping destinations, and you won't find a high street lined with chains. What you will find are small specialists, each run by people who clearly love what they sell. Below is one card per shop; opening days vary, and some are seasonal, so check each shop's own channels before you set out.

Borgeby Kryddgård: spices and a well-stocked pantry

In a blue building at the northern entrance to Borgeby, by exit 22 from the E6, with more than 400 spices and blends, around 100 teas, and shelves of oils, marmalades and crispbread from small producers.

Terracotta House & Garden: pots and homeware in Borgeby

A seasonal outlet of around 400 square metres on the same road, with terracotta pots in every size and style alongside homeware and gifts.

Italianissimo: Italy in an industrial area in Lomma

Its warehouse shop on Järngatan carries the full range: a charcuterie counter, cheeses, pasta, olive oil and antipasti, much of it from small Italian producers.

The Happy Greenhouse: flowers in Bjärred

A small flower shop on Norra Västkustvägen for cut flowers, plants and arrangements — the place to pick up something for your hosts.

Meat and fish counters: take Lomma home

Two of Lomma's restaurants are also shops. Slaktaren on Seglaregatan has its own shop with a meat counter next to the restaurant, and Fiskboden on Kajgatan in the harbour has a fish counter — handy if you are staying nearby and want something good for the barbecue. The shop and restaurant hours differ; check their websites.

Why it is worth the detour

What these shops have in common is that you will not find them anywhere else. There is no chain store selection here: the spices are weighed up in Borgeby, the pots are chosen one by one, the Italian cheeses come from small producers, and the flowers are arranged by hand. Shopping here is less about ticking off a list and more about coming home with something with a story — a spice blend from the kryddgård, a terracotta pot for the balcony, a piece of cheese for the evening, or the best cuts from the meat counter for tonight's barbecue.

The shops are small and some keep seasonal hours, so check each one's own website before you go. Many of them sit close to places you will want to visit anyway: Borgeby Castle, the stone-oven bakery, Lomma harbour and Bjärred's beach.

A shopping half day at exit 22

Borgeby Kryddgård and Terracotta House & Garden are on the same road into Borgeby, and the stone-oven bakery and the castle are a few minutes away. Combine them for an easy half day, then drive or cycle down to Bjärred for flowers and dinner.
