No entry 1 February – 31 October, including the sandbars and the water around them; two zones are closed all year and dogs are banned. Water levels can change fast — never wade out (Länsstyrelsen Skåne).
Why go
Seeing seals on the sand from a distance, through binoculars, is one of Skåne's quiet wildlife thrills.
What to see and do
Måkläppen is a group of sandbars off the southern tip of the Falsterbo peninsula, separated by water and reshaped by every storm. According to Länsstyrelsen Skåne, both harbour seals and grey seals haul out here to rest, which makes it one of the best places in southern Sweden to see seals in the wild.
It is also one of the most strictly protected places in Skåne. Entry is forbidden from 1 February to 31 October — on the sandbars and in the water around them — and two zones stay closed all year. Dogs are banned completely. Länsstyrelsen warns that the water level can change quickly, so wading out is dangerous as well as forbidden.
Plan your day
Bring binoculars and watch from a lawful spot on the shore, at the signs — never follow or approach the seals. Sightings are never guaranteed; the seals come and go with the tide and the weather. Combine with Falsterbo beach, the lighthouse and Nabben, where the bird migration in autumn is a sight of its own.

Getting there from Lomma
Falsterbonäset is south of Malmö, the closest of Skåne's big coastal day trips to Lomma. By car, follow the E6 south towards Trelleborg and take the Skanör–Falsterbo exit onto road 100. By bus, SkåneExpressen 15 from Malmö now ends at Skanör Haga, with regional line 300 continuing through Skanör and Falsterbo — plan the trip in Skånetrafiken's journey planner.
